Selection Pathway, Eligibility and Current Squads
Representing New South Wales is a significant opportunity and comes with an equally significant commitment.
The 2027 Team NSW State of Origin program will operate through a progressive selection process, allowing players to be observed and assessed across a number of competitions, Talent Identification opportunities, camps and selection activities before final teams are confirmed.
This page provides the current Team NSW squads, explains how the selection process operates and outlines the eligibility, attendance and performance requirements players must continue to meet throughout the program.
All squads listed on this page are provisional until final Team NSW teams are announced.
Current Team NSW Squad Status
Current Squad: 2027 Team NSW Provisional Squads
Current status: Provisional

The current squads will continue to be reviewed throughout the selection period. Formal squad and team announcement points are:
- 28 August 2026 – Initial Team NSW provisional squads
- 2 November 2026 – Updated squads following the National Youth Championships, Country Championships and Vawdon Cup

What Does Provisional Squad Selection Mean?
Being selected in a Team NSW provisional squad means a player remains under consideration for selection in the final 2027 Team NSW State of Origin team.
Selection in a provisional squad does not guarantee selection in the next squad or in the final Team NSW team.
Selectors will continue to assess players throughout the selection period across relevant NSWTF and national events, Talent Identification opportunities, camps and selection activities.
Squads will be formally reviewed and updated at the identified announcement points.
Where a player moves out of a provisional squad, they will be contacted directly by the relevant selection team before the updated squad is publicly announced.
A player who moves out of a squad may also be reconsidered at a later stage where their performance, development, eligibility and circumstances support reselection.
This progressive squad model provides selectors with multiple opportunities to assess players over an extended period rather than relying on a single trial or performance.
How the Selection Process Works
1. Identification and Observation
Players are observed throughout the Team NSW selection period at approved competitions, events, camps and selection activities.
2. Ongoing Assessment
Performance and Talent Identification information is considered throughout the program.
Selection is not determined by one performance or one event. Selectors will continue to assess players across the available selection and benchmarking opportunities relevant to their division.
3. Squad Review
Following the major identified competition and selection periods, provisional squads are reviewed.
Players may remain in the squad, move into the squad or move out of the squad as the selection process progresses.
4. Ratification
Proposed squads and teams are subject to the NSWTF ratification and approval process before they are publicly announced.
5. Public Announcement
Once ratified, the updated squad or final team is formally announced by NSW Touch Football and the current squads on this page are updated.
Major Selection and Benchmarking Events
Selectors will continue to observe and assess players throughout the program, including at relevant NSWTF and national events.
Key opportunities include:
- Vawdon Cup: 4 September – 1 November 2026

- State Cup: 4–6 December 2026

Maintaining Eligibility
Selection in a provisional squad does not guarantee ongoing eligibility or final selection.
From the time a player accepts their position through to the completion of the 2027 State of Origin Series, they must continue to meet the eligibility and selection requirements contained within the NSWTF Selection Policy, together with applicable Touch Football Australia requirements and State of Origin Conditions of Entry.

Eligibility Is More Than Talent Identification
Talent Identification is only one component of ongoing eligibility and selection.
All players must also:
- meet relevant competition, registration, membership, age, residency, nationality and affiliation requirements;
- meet applicable TFA, NSWTF, State of Origin and event Conditions of Entry;
- attend required selection events, Talent Identification activities, camps and assessments unless an exemption has been formally approved;
- maintain the required standards of performance, attitude, behaviour, preparation and availability;
- remain fit and available to participate in the campaign, subject to approved medical or exceptional circumstances; and
- comply with NSWTF policies, codes, integrity requirements and Team NSW standards.
Players are responsible for advising NSWTF immediately of any change in circumstances that may affect their eligibility, fitness, availability or ability to meet the requirements of the Team NSW program.
Failure to maintain the required eligibility, behavioural, fitness, availability or compliance standards may impact continued squad selection, final team selection or replacement within the team.
Unable to Attend a Compulsory Activity?
Where a player is unable to attend a compulsory selection event, Talent Identification activity, camp or assessment because of:
- injury or illness;
- bereavement;
- approved representative commitments;
- unavoidable work commitments;
- unavoidable study commitments; or
- another exceptional circumstance,
a written exemption request must be submitted to NSWTF as early as practicable and, wherever possible, before the relevant activity.
Supporting documentation may be required.
Approval of an exemption does not guarantee continued squad or final team selection.

Important Information for Players
Players selected in a provisional squad are expected to understand and plan around the full Team NSW program, not simply the next selection event.
Players should ensure they:
- understand the dates and commitments relevant to their division;
- are available for applicable compulsory selection activities and Team NSW camps;
- continue to meet eligibility requirements;
- advise NSWTF promptly of injury, illness or changes in availability;
- comply with the NSWTF Selection Policy and Team NSW standards; and
- understand that provisional squads may continue to change throughout the selection process.
NSWTF Selection Policy
The NSWTF Selection Policy governs player eligibility, selection processes, squad and team selection, replacements, ratification, communication and confidentiality across the Team NSW pathway.
