NSW Touch Football are proud to award St George Touch Association’s very own, Scott Bulmer, as Volunteer of the Month for September 2026.

To share some of Scott’s story, we asked him:

1. What motivated you to start volunteering with your local Touch Association, and how long have you been involved?

We were looking for a sport locally for the boys and decided on Touch Football. All three have grown up playing as have I. After a few years watching, I decided to volunteer and help around the club in numerous roles and responsibilities. I have been volunteering with St George Touch for over 9 years now but have been around the club for 15 years, time flies when you are having fun.

2. What do you enjoy most about volunteering within the Touch Football community?

After playing for many years, I enjoy seeing new kids come and try a new sport with friends, meeting new people and seeing kids grow into young adults who enjoy having fun. It gives kids of all ages the ability to grow in confidence, develop skills and meet new friends. My contribution as a volunteer no matter how big or small over the years has given me a feeling of working together for the community and giving everyone somewhere to come along too each week to have fun and build fitness in a team environment.

3. Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time volunteering?

Certainly, receiving a blues award a few years back for my contribution to Touch, along with club person of the year for services for St George Touch.

4. What do you enjoy or love most about Touch Football?

I have played at our local comp for 15 years for fun and fitness. The challenge of playing with and against my three boys, has always been a fun challenge. It is the friendships, the laughs and smiles you see on everyone’s faces. Also, the varying roles I have held within the club. No doubt the opportunities I had received by being with Stgeorge, such as the opportunities playing State Cup and NTL’s which is something I never thought I would do. It has also been encouraging seeing my boys also take on roles and responsibilities around St George Touch to give back.

5. What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting involved as a volunteer in Touch Football?

If you are thinking of volunteering, just ask your club, I had no experience before I volunteered at St George Touch. Do not be afraid to start small even if you do not know the rules or what you can do, every little bit helps clubs. You learn a lot, make greats friends, and help build and maintain the club in the community. I have had numerous roles throughout my time, and no matter how small your volunteer role is this is giving back especially if you have kids playing. You can see all the kids growing into young adults, and this is extremely rewarding for everyone whom volunteers. You never know what you can do or the satisfaction you have till your volunteer, so put your hand up and ask, “What can I do for the club to help.”
