The new referee youth program represents a significant step forward in nurturing and developing the next generation of referees in the sport. This initiative was born out of recognising the potential and talent displayed by a select group of referees during various tournaments. These young referees were identified as the future of officiating, with the potential to achieve higher honours in their careers.

The program has been carefully designed with a focus on providing these promising referees with a “fast track” coaching experience. This includes a range of activities such as online workshops, video analysis sessions, and regular updates on the latest expectations, trends, and techniques in refereeing. By incorporating these elements, the program aims to accelerate the development of these referees and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.

To ensure the success of the program, a dedicated team has been assembled, consisting of three experienced coaches and five mentors who are aligned with the program’s objectives. These coaches and mentors play a crucial role in guiding and supporting the young referees, providing them with personalised feedback and guidance as they progress through the program.

One notable aspect of the program is the involvement of the majority of the NSWTA Elite Referees in supporting and guiding the direction of the program. This inclusion not only adds credibility and expertise but also provides a valuable support network for the young referees as they navigate their journey toward higher levels of officiating.
