NSW Touch Football will be conducting the inaugural Western Schools Cup in Orange .
This event is open to all male and female Western Region NSW Primary students in Years 5 & 6.
This event will be open to all Western NSW Schools with in the Western PSSA Region, Bathurst Diocese, Wilcannia/Forbes Diocese, CSSA Far West Zone, Western Associated Schools (WAS), etc.
All schools that enter this event will participate in the direct Western Final which will be held on Tuesday 12th November at Waratahs Sports Ground, Orange (Home of City of Orange Touch Football).
The Inaugural Western Schools Cup event is designed to encourage schools to develop their students in the sport of Touch Football. Schools are encouraged to enter secondary/development teams into the event to gain game experience.
The Western School cup concept came out of a meeting with NSW Touch Football, City of Orange Touch Football and Bathurst Diocese Sport to further strengthen touch football in the primary school sector in Western NSW.
The Western Schools Cup also offers the unique opportunity for schools from the Government (PSSA), Catholic (CPS) and Independent (CIS) systems to contest a championship against each other, an opportunity not provided elsewhere within the School System for Touch Football.
Bathurst Diocese Touch Football Coach Alistaire Thompson stated “In recent years Western NSW has been on the rise as a touch football powerhouse and to keep that rise going, we need events like the Western Schools Cup.”
NSWTA Game Development Officer Ricky Hetherington stated “This unique competition will continue to strengthen Western NSW players and push them for higher honours going forward.
Referees for the event will be provided by local high schools in Orange, which will also give them an opportunity to further their skills.
