HISTORY
Touch Football is a thrilling sport that allows people of all walks of life to achieve their goals; whether that is the thrill of challenging oneself to compete at their best, the thrill of a fast, skillful and exhilarating sport, the thrill of meeting new people or the thrill of being a part of something that can span a lifetime.
Last financial year (2022-2023), Touch Football NSW had over 70,146 registered members and an additional 184, 183 children participating in school programs and related activities, which places the sport among the top participant based, organised sports in Australia.
New South Wales Touch Football (NSWTA) is the State Sporting Organisation for the sport and it is the role of the organisation to develop and grow the sport of Touch Football in New South Wales.
The first formalized Touch Football competition was South Sydney Touch Association in 1968. Touch Football continued to grow and during the 70`s it took hold in the country areas. The first country competition was Wagga Wagga Touch Association in 1973 with the first women’s competition officially starting in Ballina in 1975.
The New South Wales Touch Association was constituted in 1972 and at that point there were six competitions and approximately 1500 players. In 2022, the NSWTA celebrated its 50th Jubilee.
As at 2023 the number of participants in New South Wales has reached over 252,467 and over 145 affiliated competitions.
REGIONS
New South Wales Touch Association is divided into 6 regions for development, technical and representative purposes and they are; West South West Suns (South Coast & South West NSW), Southern Rebels (South East & South West Sydney), Sydney Mets (Central & Western Sydney), Sydney Scorpions (North East & North West Sydney), Hunter Western Hornets (Hunter, Central Coast & Western NSW) and Northern Eagles (North Coast & North West NSW)
The objects for which the Association is established and maintained are to:
(a) Remain a member of the NSWTA and abide by all directions of the NSWTA
(b) Promote, encourage, foster, develop, and extend the sport of Touch Football in the region for human beings;
(c) Select support and/or sponsor any representative team or teams for any purposes associated with Touch Football as approved by the NSWTA.
(d) Abide by and maintain standardised playing rules and regulations as issued by the NSWTA.
(e) Promote, organise and conduct championships, competitions and other events with NSWTA permission and guidance pertaining to the sport as may from time to time be considered expedient.
(f) Conduct an annual community activation with a social purpose
(g) Cooperate with the NSWTA as the controlling body
