Port Macquarie once again rolled out the welcome mat as Mayor Adam Roberts officially opened the 2025 NSW Touch Football State Cup at the Port Macquarie Regional Stadium.

For over 36 years, the State Cup has been a cornerstone event for the region, and Mayor Roberts reflected on its strong legacy, sharing that he has been involved as a representative, spectator, and supporter for over a decade.

He highlighted the substantial economic and community impact the tournament brings, attracting visitors from across Australia and around the world. The Mayor encouraged participants to enjoy the region’s stunning coastline, welcoming community, and everything Port Macquarie has to offer.

Reaffirming the community’s commitment, Mayor Roberts stated that Port Macquarie-Hastings remains “absolutely committed to this event long-term,” confirming the region’s intention to submit an expression of interest to continue hosting in future years.

General Manager Dean Russell thanked Mayor Roberts for the welcome and expressed the organisation’s excitement to return to Port Macquarie for the 2025 Senior State Cup.

He highlighted the scale of this year’s event, with 241 teams, including international entrants from Singapore and Japan, and a strong contingent of the world’s best touch football athletes.

Across the three-day tournament, more than 900 games will be played throughout the precinct, featuring not only elite touch players but also several NRLW, Ex NRL, and other high profile athletes taking part.

Russell commended the outstanding condition of the fields and noted the favourable weather setting the stage for a fantastic weekend.

Russell also shared his insights on the teams to watch in 2025, noting that 2024 grand finalists Doyalson and Newcastle are once again shaping up as strong contenders, while Manly has impressed this season and will be a serious threat.

In the Women’s division, he pointed to Canterbury and Easts, both coming off a successful Vawdon Cup campaign, predicting they are likely to feature at the business end — though he emphasised that “it could be anyone’s title” in such a competitive category.
