Congratulations Brenda Curry!

NSWTA are proud to award Beresfield Touch Association’s very own, Brenda Curry, as Volunteer of the Month for December 2025

“Brenda is truly the heart of our club and the reason everything runs so smoothly. She keeps the wheels turning day after day, managing the canteen, organising round games, coordinating referees, overseeing representative teams, and making sure our fields are set up and packed away without fail. On top of all that, she is constantly juggling phone calls, messages, and questions from players, parents, and volunteers always with patience, positivity, and a genuine desire to help”

To share some of Brenda’s story, we asked her:

  1. What motivated you to start volunteering with your local Touch Association, and how long have you been involved?

When I started with Beresfield Touch, it was a very small club with only a few teams and around four volunteers. They were just beginning to focus on growing their junior program. At the time, I was simply a mum who didn’t know much about touch football, but I had signed my kids up to play  in their comp and knew their small committee needed help. I got involved to help where I could, and over time that support grew into a strong commitment to the club and its development.

      2. What do you enjoy most about volunteering within the Touch Football community?

What I enjoy most about volunteering within the Touch Football community is the sense of community and the friendships I’ve made. On the field we all may be rivals, but off the field the entire touch community feels like one big group of mates. I also love being able to offer opportunities for both adults and children to play the game they love.

    3. Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time volunteering?

I don’t think I can pick just one memorable moment. Beresfield is only a small club and it has taken time and a lot of hard work to rebuild. Recently, our Under 12 Boys won their grand final at a regional carnival, and seeing the emotions, smiles, and celebrations from those kids made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile. Another priceless memory is watching our Under 10s take the field at their first representative carnival, playing their hearts out and simply having fun. Moments like these are what make volunteering so rewarding.

     4. What do you enjoy or love most about Touch Football?

What I love most about Touch Football is the friendships, the strong sense of belonging, and the opportunities it creates for players of all ages and abilities. It brings people together from all walks of life and provides a supportive environment where players can grow both on and off the field and be part of something bigger than just the game.

     5. What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting involved as a volunteer in Touch Football?

Just do it. You don’t need to know everything about the game to get started — you’ll learn along the way and be supported by many around you. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that you can help make a real difference for players, clubs, and the wider community.

Every Touch Football club has those legends who just… make things happen. The ones who set alarms earlier than the sun to mark fields, fire up the BBQ without being asked, organise teams, support our referees, or jump in wherever help is needed. They’re the heartbeat of our affiliates, and our game wouldn’t run without them.

NSW Touch wants to celebrate those everyday heroes.

Each month, we’ll highlight one amazing volunteer who has gone above and beyond for their club. There are so many brilliant people out there, so help us find them!
